How fast is your heart?

Activity Description:

In this activity, you will record your heart rate every 5 minutes during a 30 minute game of soccer. You will then use your recorded data to create a line graph that demonstrates how your heart rate changes as a result of exercise.

Instructions

1. Print out the following table using the Microsoft Word button below.

2. Using a smartphone, download 'Heart rate monitor' app or equivalent from the play/apple store. Use this app to measure your heart rate through the fingerprint sensor.

3. Go outside play a game of soccer for 30 minutes, however, you must record your heart rate every 5 minutes using the table that you have just printed.

4. Once you have recorded your results, construct a line graph to show how your heart rate changes over time. (Ask your teacher for some grid paper to create your graph).

5. Paste your graph into your PDHPE book.

6. If you want to go further with this activity, you could also record how many steps you took when playing your soccer game.
